Two-spined spider (female)

Poecilopachys australasia

Description:

Small spider to 7mm diameter. The white is very stark so I can only assume it is warning colors or it did look a little like bird poo on the leaf, from a distance. It lay very still with its legs tucked in.

Habitat:

Small sheet web over the surface of a leaf. Te Mata, New Zealand

Notes:

Adult males lack the pair of large abdominal spurs and the bright colors that characterize the adult females.

Quite a harmless spider Petrice, unless you are a small tasty morsel of food.
