Fox Squirrel

Sciurus niger

Description:

Larger squirrel species for the area. Reddish/brown in color fading to grey on the backside.

Habitat:

Woodland habitat along the Mississippi River at Rock Creek County Park.

Notes:

This frisky little squirrel just wouldn't leave me alone while I sat and waited for red headed woodpeckers to get close. He would chatter at me, run around the tree, and even come on the front side, almost bluffing me to come after him:)
