Ivory Pintail

Acisoma trifidum

Description:

Acisoma trifidum is a species of dragonfly in the Libellulidae family. It is found in Angola, Cameroon, Central African Republic, the Republic of the Congo, Côte d'Ivoire, Equatorial Guinea, Gambia, Ghana, Guinea, Guinea-Bissau, Liberia, Nigeria, Sierra Leone, Togo, Uganda, Zambia, possibly Burundi, possibly Kenya, and possibly Tanzania.

Habitat:

Its natural habitats are subtropical or tropical moist lowland forests, rivers, intermittent rivers, shrub-dominated wetlands, freshwater marshes, and intermittent freshwater marshes. It is threatened by habitat loss.

Notes:

This gorgeous dragonfly came along my way on an evening stroll. I had never seen it before. It settled on the hedge nearby displaying itself. I perceived that it must have got wind of the dragonfly photographer in town and I guess that it didn't want to be left out . And so I decided to give it a shot. It remained calm the all the while, hardly fidgeting before finally lifting. I was impressed.
