A worldwide community photographing and learning about wildlife
Atanycolus sp.
I can't seem to find a common name for this member of the Braconid wasp family. I sadly didn't get pictures clearer or closer than this. Almost unnoticeable is a long thin ovipositor protruding from the abdomen. They form a triangle by bending their bodies upward and tilting their ovipositor downward to lay their eggs.
Found on a dead old tree, presumably an oak.
I'm having trouble finding information about it, to be honest. Wikipedia doesn't seem to have an article on it yet!
