Crab-eating Macaque

Macaca Fascicularis

Description:

The male was about 50cm, short arms and legs with a long tail, 60 to 70cm approx. Golden - Brown back and head, white at frontal parts and white markings at eyelids.

Habitat:

Spotted during a raining morning walk at Kebun Raya Cibodas, a 80ha area above 1.400 metres high, mix of botanical park with big trees & palms and surrounded by a rainforest at the foot of Gene volcano, Java - Indonesia. The species are native to Southeast Asia, including Bangladesh, Malaysia, Indonesia and Philippines and lives in a wide variety of habitats, including primary lowland rainforests, secondary rainforests, shrubland, and riverine and coastal forests of nipa palm and mangrove.

Notes:

The female was scratching the male back, when they noticed my presence the male immediately waked up showing their teeth, after that they returned to his leisure time. The IUCN Red List categorizes the species as Least Concern. Macaca Fascicularis has several common names like "long-tailed macaque", "crab-eating macaque" or "cynomolgus monkey".
