Butterfly milkweed

Asclepias tuberosa

Description:

Stalks about 3-5 inches high with long oval leaves. Flower buds emerge as spheres that open up to five petaled flowers at the crest. Native and a known host plant for monarchs (though this one shows no sign of monarch eggs). Excited because second pic is a new growth plant down the hill from the original.

Habitat:

West central ga. Muddy/clay bed, some mulch.
