Netta rufina
The adult male breeding Red-crested Pochard is a striking duck, with its rounded orange head and coiffed appearance, red bill and black breast. The female, which is seen in the last shot, has a dark brown head contrasting sharply with her grey cheeks.
The shores of a large central European lake. One pair seen with numerous mallards and tufted ducks.
Not so long ago this species was not often sighted in Switzerland. The recent increase in the number of Red-crested Pochards wintering in Switzerland is reflecting the general improvement of the lake water quality.
