Pilherodius pileatus (Boddaert, 1783)
The Capped Heron is a pelecaniformes bird in Ardeidae family, with lenght between 51-59 cm and weighting about 444-632 g. In Brazil, it is also known as "garça-morena","garcinha" and "garça-de-cabeça-preta". Source: http://neotropical.birds.cornell.edu/por...
It inhabiting rivers and lakes with forested shores, and wetlands, feeding on mudflats and usually lives alone or, less frequently, in groups of 2 or 3 birds.
I foud this "garça-real" at the lake of Nogueira, in Petrópolis, Rio de Janeiro, where is very common its presence, but despite its wide distribution, it is not abundant in the regions where it occurs.

Nice series, Antonio!
Thank you, AshleyT.
Your spotting has been nominated for the Spotting of the Week. The winner will be chosen by the Project Noah Rangers based on a combination of factors including: uniqueness of the shot, status of the organism (for example, rare or endangered), quality of the information provided in the habitat and description sections. There is a subjective element, of course; the spotting with the highest number of Ranger votes is chosen. Congratulations on being nominated!
