Platycercus eximius
Male and female pictured, brilliant red head, patchier colours overall in female, red chest, yellow belly merging to pale green near vent, blue grey tail and wing feathers with smaller shoulder feathers in shades of blue, yellow back feathers scalloped in black, distinctive white cheeks. Chiming, tinkling beautiful calls uttered at rest or in flight, seen in pairs or groups, feeds on nectar, insects, seeds, forages in shrubs, trees and on the ground.
Found throughout southern parts of eastern Australia in many habitat types including woodlands where tree hollows exist for nesting.
