Cucullia sp.
A moth with the head of a Gorilla on it's thorax. Colored for camouflage and with many tufts of scales and hair. It has a very prominent pronotal tuft. About 2.5 cm long.
Came to an ultraviolet light in the garden, San Cristobal de Las Casas, 2,200 meters.
Family Noctuidae, Subfamily Cucullinae, one of the many Hooded Owlet type moths, may be of the Genus Cucullia. This link from France shows many similar species of the Cucullinae and a larva or two (http://aramel.free.fr/INSECTES13-41-01.s...).

Thank you Juan Carlos :)
Thank you Jacob. I agree. I went through lots and lots of pictures of the Cucullinae and didn't find an exact match but supposedly there are hundreds of species just of Cucullia.
Looks very similar to Cucullia sp.
