Wood Frogs

Notes:

This series of pictures show a mating pair of Wood Frogs, the size of the thumbs on the front legs is how to tell the sexes apart. The female (2nd pic) has a normal size thumb, while the male (3rd pic) has an enlarged thumb. A pitfall trap used in a survey is full of Wood Frogs (4th pic). Egg masses in a vernal pool are attached to sticks under water (5th pic). And a tadpole in the vernal pool in the 6th pic.

Thanks Janelle, these frogs are common around vernal pools in the spring when they mate and lay egg masses.
