Lupinus diffusus
About 10" tall- flower buds are delightfully fuzzy. Leaves are soft but not fuzzy. Grows in a clump like "lambs ears", which it reminds me of.
Grows in two large clumps in an abandoned lot , both under turkey oak trees.

Oh THANKYOU!!! I just read the HAwthorn Hill blog... It's such a special plant. Wish I could transfer the whole clump into my garden!
We get it growing over here in upper Pinellas County in the soft sandy areas with the pines; and in a pasture land of the Brooker Creek Preserve leased out for cattle at the time. It's a shame the blooms have to die off it is so pretty.
