Weevil

Description:

This tiny weevil is only 3 mm in length and covered in large lumpy tufts of scales which make it look like bark or lichen. It tucks it's self in a tight knot and plays dead for hours. It scarcely looks like a beetle even up close. Family Curculionidae.

Habitat:

Came to an ultraviolet light, so it can obviously fly well. Finca Argovia, Ruta de Café, Soconusco area of southern Chiapas, about 1 hour northeast of Tapachula.
