Lantern Bug

Pyrops whiteheadi

Description:

Some kind of lantern bug, there are so many variations, I am not an expert to identify exactly which one it is. It is almost certainly a 'Pyrops whiteheadi'!

Habitat:

Forested area, early morning, Kinabatangan river.

No idea... ;-)... Actually I am not very familiar with Lantern Bugs. All I know is that you have to look carefully at the color of the nose and nose tip, color of the legs, spots and other markings and the color(s) of the wings.

Yep, that's it. I have another one, the same shape but plain, drab, 'cream' coloured. Do you think it is another species, or immature, or sexually dimorphic?

Pyrops whiteheadi?? Just a hint. You have to look for other species in your area. Malaysia is a little bit out of my range ;-)...
