Yep, Dan, you're right. I also read about Strelitzia.
Just to chime in here Kunzah, while there are 2 other plants commonly known as the bird of paradise bush and the red bird of paradise, in Horticulture bird of paradise always refers to species of Strelitzia.
Hm, well Heliconia flowers are known as False Bird of Paradise flowers, Karen. "Bird of Paradise" flower is the common name for many different plants.
Is this a type of "Bird of Paradise" flower ?
This looks like a type of Heliconia.
