Wandering Tattler

Tringa incana

Description:

This shy Wandering Tattler was foraging at the edge of the surf on a sparsely people Ke'e Beach at the end of the Kuhio Highway along the northern edge of Kauai. It was roughly the size of a crow, with longish yellow legs, and a heavily speckled breast.

Habitat:

I was sitting sketching very quietly in the edge of the forest above the beach, relatively invisible, and since no other people were around I got to watch this tattler at its normal activities for quite some time as it poked around in the crevices for edible things.

Notes:

This is a little farther north than its usual range, which is listed as southern Pacific Islands.
