Birch Polypore

Fomitopsis betulina

Description:

The same large polypore I described some half a year ago, totally changed, almost doubled in volume over the last 6 months. These are very large carpophores (conks), growing on a decaying birch log - today, conks are over 30cm in diameter, with firm but spongy flesh. Cream brown in color, and bright white underneath.

Habitat:

Foothills of Jura mountain range; found on a fallen and decaying log in forested area of a nearby town park.
