Mole Kingsnake

Description:

Very small slender snake hiding under the cat's food pan. Bantaam Chicken egg added for size reference. Lying in Loblolly Pine needles. Gray belly, base color gray with black splotchy regular markings on body and black triangle on head. South Western Kentucky, Graves County 1.5 miles from TN & 2 miles from Hickman County.

Habitat:

Under a cat food pan in concrete floored dog pen littered with pine needles under Loblolly Pine trees in my backyard bordered by soybean fields, grassy lots, garden and lawn.

Notes:

Feisty, striking at me and attempted to flee.

After closer look at head markings I agree with @AshleyT that this is a Mole Kingsnake.

Hi there, this is most certainly not a rat snake, the back pattern is completely wrong. Please compare your snake to a rat snake, then check out the ID suggestion I made as it is correct, then please update your spotting. Thanks.
