Pink Cattleheart Butterfly, Transandean Cattleheart

Parides iphidamas

Description:

Pink Cattleheart Butterfly, looks similar to other of the Cattleheart family of Swallowtail butterflies but has six pink spots on its rear wings and the outline dots are white. I almost never see them with wings outspread, but the underside is easily identified.

Habitat:

This butterfly was perched beside a dirt road on understory foliage in the Belizean rain forest of the Maya Mt. foothills near my house.

Notes:

The reference has a photo of a caterpillar.
