Eastern skunk cabbage

Symplocarpus foetidus

Description:

A waxy looking succulent plant. Young leaves are maroon and speckled with green. It is foul-smelling in large quantities.

Habitat:

These plants dotted the landscape of a swamp. It prefers wetlands such as the one I visited.

Notes:

I initially thought that this plant resembles cabbage and now I know why!

Thank you for the ID, Dan. I'm surprised I was close with my guess. I've never seen this plant before.

These look really cool when they first emerge. You were close with your cabbage guess.
