Cretan Jewel Beetle

Julodis pubescens yvenii

Description:

Cretan Jewel Beetle (Julodis pubescens subsp. yvenii), a rare Buprestidae species found only in Crete island Greece, spotted this morning wandering around in the city center. The elytra were striped with metallic brown and white stripes and spots, and the prosoma was hairy and golden green, as was the underside of the insect. The beetle was removed from the area, and was released in a safer place, and as soon as it touched green leaves it flew away. Spotted in central Agios Nikolaos, Crete island.
