Albizia sp.

Description:

The pantropical genus is known for its showy flowers characteristic of most species. Albizias are sometimes called "mimosa", which are related but the name refers more properly to members of the genus Mimosa.

Habitat:

Planted as an ornamental on a school campus nestled in the lower foothills of the Cyclops mountains. This is in the equatorial tropics of northern New Guinea.

Notes:

Those are weaver ants (Oecophylla smaragdina) under some of the blossoms.
