Cyrtocarenum trapdoor spider

Description:

Cyrtocarenum cunicularium is a trapdoor spider species found in Greece, Crete, Rhodes and Turkey. Like any other trapdoor spider ( family Ctenizidae), the Cyrtocarenum cunicularium is a medium-sized mygalomorph spider that constructs burrows, with a cork-like trapdoor, made of soil, vegetation and silk. Yesterday we were planting tomato plants in our veggie garden, and I accidentally destroyed this spider's home... Fortunately she escaped unscathed, and I removed her in to a safer place inside the garden, after I snapped some pics of her! Sorry Mrs spider! Spotted and photographed, in my veggie garden, Nea Demetrias, Volos city, Greece.

Notes:

In the 4th pic, you may see her size, comparing to my left index finger nail. She was very shy and easy to handle, and she was released back in the garden. Our veggie garden is 100% organic, and Mrs spider and her friends will be absolutely safe, as every other insect and spider fauna, dwelling there :)
