Fishtail Palm

Caryota urens

Description:

This Fishtail Palm was out of season, apparently. Its seed-carrying "fishtail" growths were withered and barren, and the tree itself looked unhealthy. The tree was about 8 meters tall and had a prop-and-stilt root system.

Habitat:

This was found during a mostly dry part of the year, in a secondary rainforest on a sunny day in Singapore, near my school. It was given partial shade by medium-size trees above it.
