Mourning Cloak

Nymphalis antiopa

Description:

I believe this is a spent male. Initially thought it may have been a monarch because of its light orange hue. Was suspect of the light trailing edge and couldn't immediate find a match. Mourning cloak looks like a better call.

Habitat:

Along side the trail.

Thank you. I was suspect myself but I do not know butterflies as well as I know trees and wild plants. Thank you for the correction.

Hi Cloudedweller, that's a beautiful spotting but I do not think that it is a Monarch butterfly. I have added a link for your reference :)
