A worldwide community photographing and learning about wildlife
Ardea herodias (occidentalis)
Great White Herons occur in central and southern Florida, Cuba, the Isle of Pines, the coasts of Yucatan and Quintana Roo, and off Venezuela in a variety of coastal and inland habitats. Great White Herons nest primarily on isolated mangrove islands.
My first spotting of this bird. Having seen many Great Blue Herons and Great Egrets in the Everglades, I could tell this was no Egret. It was larger and more robust, it was as if someone had bleached a Great Blue Heron, legs and all. As the article states there has been debate as to this being a proper subspecies or a color morph. http://blog.audubonguides.com/2011/04/11...

We've seen one here before. Very rare!
