Deer Mouse (newborns)

Peromyscus maniculatus

Description:

Deer Mouse litter of newborns are tiny, pink and blind. I had been working in our carriage shed this morning and had pulled down a dilapidated pony carriage not realizing there were was a litter of mice in it. My dog alerted me to one baby that fell out. I put the baby on my glove and inside where I found another and placed it back where it was. Hopefully, the mom will return and find them. I believe they are deer mice because of how clean it was inside the nest area. Deer Mice are exceptionally clean and actually spend most of their time cleaning.

Habitat:

Bird houses, burrows, trees, logs, and buildings.

Great news. I went and checked on the babies an hour after and they were gone. The mom did her job. That makes me happy.
