Eastern tiger swallowtail

Papilio glaucus

Description:

This is a fairly large butterfly, it's wingspan was just over 4 inches. It was mostly a light yellow color, but it did have many dark black markings along the edges of it's wings, as well as the distinctive stripes.

Habitat:

Found fluttering around the edge of mixed woodland near a garden.

Notes:

Unlike most butterflies, this one did not mind my presence, it was a slow flyer and it did not quickly escape when i tried to get close to it.
