Eastern Garter Snake

Thamnophis sirtalis

Description:

Male 12 inches long. Non-venomous. A friendly sort.

Habitat:

Open woodlands near brook.

Notes:

5th or 6th encounter. Seemed very unafraid of me and very curious. Originally saw with female larger snake and then a 2nd male. Saw only by itself today. Check out the video. (No repeat photos. Lots of tongue today.)

I have a question for snake lovers since I am new "at snakes". This snake and I may have encountered each other more than 20 times before winter and then again for 6 times recently. It seemed especially excited to see me and moved in closer and closer flicking its tongue vigorously. It didn't seem aggressive. I am just hoping it wanted me to pet it. HA! LOL! Thanks!
