Merulioid fungus

Tyromyces merulinus

Description:

Looking like molten lava these orange patches of small folds and swelling were the fruiting bodies of this merulioid fungus. On close examination I could see angular pores (pic 1)

Habitat:

Spotted on burnt well decayed and damp myrtle beech (Nothofagus cunninghamii ) log - nature reserve
