Description:

Male painted buntings are medium sized songbirds that have thick bills. The male buntings have beautiful coloring with bright blue heads, green backs, and red-orange underparts. They have a red ring around their eyes.

Habitat:

Painted buntings are found in dense wooded areas, or grassy habitats near woodland edges.

Thank you Neil! You are right, his colors are very similar to the rainbow lorikeets, but he is much smaller, and I didn't hear a peep from him;-)

What a lovely spotting. He's beautiful. The colours remind me of rainbow lorikeets, but I'm sure this little fellow is much quieter and has far better manners. Congratulations, Stephanie, on you SOTD.
