A worldwide community photographing and learning about wildlife
Bombax ceiba
About 10 to 15 m tall deciduous tree. I actually never saw it with leaves... Floral buds presented in pics 1 and 2, and non-mature fruits in pics 3 and 4. I guess it was not the season for large, five-petaled flowers, but they can be seen in my spotting from Myanmar last year: https://www.projectnoah.org/spottings/18...
Very common, ubiquitous all around Cox's Bazar district, both in urban and rural settings.
Fruits are not edible, but they produce an interesting cotton-like material I'm not sure how it is used. Flowers are edible and appreciated raw, as a salad, or cooked in soups and curries, or dried and used for teas nd soups.
