Yellow-Rumped Warbler

Setophaga coronata

Description:

This is the first piebald species my room mate and I saw! It is a piebald Yellow-rumped Warbler. These little fellows are very common around the grasslands and are very distinguishable by their yellow patch on their back near the tail. These are the only warblers that digest waxes from Bayberries and Wax Myrtle. Pieballed is a term for species that have a spotting pattern for large unpigmented (typically white) areas on the animal. Yellow-rumped Warblers are from the Parulidae family and Passeriformes order. Picture taken at the Orlando Wetlands.

Habitat:

Along man-made wetlands.

Notes:

Picture was taken at the Orlando Wetlands Park.
