Kapok Bug

Probergrothius nigricornis

Description:

Flat, faint red/ brownbeige bug with two dots on its back, black legs and tiny white eyes. About 2 cm. I believe it is also called a Man Face bug as it looks like a face of a man when it is upside down. The small bugs are much brighter. Are they the babies?

Habitat:

At the top of a high cliff on our way to Wat Chaloem Phra Kiat Phrachomklao Rachanusorn. Near Lampang. 1000 meters above sea level. Thailand

Notes:

We had been spotting lots and lots of the little shiny red bugs until we stumbled on this scene. Loads of bigger bugs and what it seems like small bugs inside the fruitpod!!! What was this? An all you can eat fruitpod meal? Or a nursery? I moved the pod a bit to have a better look but did not want to disturb them too much. Can anyone tell me what they are and what they are doing? There was a lot of mating going on at the same time.

Thank you for the ID tmvdh! Although when I google Cotton Stainer Bug (and I even have one in a spotting http://www.projectnoah.org/spottings/121...) it looks much brighter and more colourful. So I am not sure yet.
Yes funny face huh Gilma? Thanks for the compliment.

Love the faces!
Thank you for sharing. Great pictures, Muckpuk.
