Zigzag Fungus Beetle

Erotylus incomparabilis

These beetles are 20-25 cm long and have a high dome with 5 zigzag stripes across the back/wings/ The first from the head is yellow, then there are 3 red and a final stripe near the tips of the wings that is yellow

They are found throughout our area of the Amazon rainforest of SE Ecuador. Often found on fallen tree trunks.

Also called Pleasing Fungus Beetle, I appropriately named this the Zigzag bug the first time I saw one. Really pretty colors.

Pleasing indeed. And part of a large group of Pleasing Beetles that is fascinating . . . as well as pleasing 😊.
