Rattle snake plant

Calathea crotalifera var. yellow

Description:

tall narrow yellow bract, small white flowers, large ginger-like leaves

Habitat:

pacific coast rainforest

Notes:

I spotted this while walking along a waterpipe in San Cipriano reserve. I have photos of the whole plant somewhere but you are not missing much. Looks like many other ginger type plants with large leaves and flowers blooming from the ground.

Thanks mauna K for the ID. I hadn't begun to search for the ID of this yet but I am a bit surprised it's a Calathea.

Dan, at first I thought this was a heliconia, but it's a look alike of a different genus. I also read on Wiki that some Calathea plants are endangered. Very cool.
