Bustard: Black-bellied Bustard

Eupodotis melanogaster

Description:

Long neck, long legged slender bustard; in male, underparts and line on fore-neck are black; face is white and a white line down the neck; black line behind eye; crown and hind neck sandy brown; upperparts are brown to dark-brown with heavy black spots; wings are generally black with white. Females are paler, with whitish belly; no black line down the neck Photo taken at Ngorongoro Crater, Tanzania

Habitat:

Savanna with trees; tall grassland

Notes:

Hartlaub's Bustard is very similar but differs by being stockier, grey in appearance
