Common Garter Snake

Thamnophis sirtalis

Description:

Most Common Garter snakes have a pattern of yellow stripes on a brown or green background. Their average total length is about 22 in. They are indigenous to North America and are widely found across the continent.

Habitat:

I spotted these snakes sunning themselves in the middle of a path at Boyd Audubon. There were two of them together on the path, and they also slithered away together, as you can see in the second picture.

Thanks! Wish I could have gotten a good shot of the 2nd snake though because it had a really cool orange tint!

I've seen and photographed several Garter Snakes within the past month or so, but none as brightly colored as in yours. Good job.
