Southern boobook

Ninox boobook

Description:

The smallest species of owl in Australia. The female is usually larger than the male. I believe the bird in the first photo is the male, and the bird in the second photo is female.

Habitat:

This pair was spotted in a deciduous tree in a backyard.

Notes:

The female has been coming back to the same tree every spring and summer for the past few years.
