Black Oystercatcher

Haematopus bachmani

Description:

It was evening, and a huge group of oystercatchers were hanging out on one side of the jetty, while the other side was covered in gulls. They are very vocal, making cute little peeping sounds.

Habitat:

Jetty protecting a boat harbor close to town. These jetties often have large groups of birds, and not always the same kinds. Last time I passed by there was a large flock of turnstones on them.
