It is a sponge that has an irregular shape or crust shape, with many lobes or papillae (rounded epidermal extensions) that cover it. It has a fairly dark reddish color. It can measure between 20 and 25 cm in length and about 15 cm in width. It is characterized by the fact that it is a soft and smooth sponge.
At the base of the Posidonia oceanica leaves rooted in the rocks of the sandy coastline of La Azohía (Murcia).
Sponges, as we have said, are made up of pores through which water enters, and through which the sponge captures nutrients and absorbs oxygen. The amount of water that some sponges filter is considerable, possibly two hundred thousand times the volume of the sponge in a 24-hour period.
