Brown Widow

Latrodectus geometricus

Description:

I personally think this may be a Brown Widow. I've never seen one before, so it's questionable. I hear that they are common in San Diego.

Notes:

I found this spider in an Armstrong Garden Center. He stood still when I went up to take a picture.

I would agree with bugadrienne that it is not a brown widow - and could very well be a wolf spider.

No, it wasn't large. Relatively small. I just found it in an Armstrong Garden Center. But thanks for the links.

Also, try looking up spiders on bugguide.net, and spiderzrule.com. There are loads of photos to compare it to.

It is not a brown widow. I can't tell what kind it is from the photo, but it doesn't appear to be the type of spider that will trap prey in a web. The brown widow will keep a web that they trap food in.

Maybe your spider is a wolf spider? Was it large?
