Giant Leopard Moth

Ecpantheria scribonia

Description:

Found this moth resting on a trash can at our city's pool. It had very distinctive characteristics: white coloring w/ black spots and a thick body. If you look closely, you can see it has false eyes to scare away predators. I have never seen this type of moth before...I was excited to spot it!

Habitat:

woodland, field, or meadow
