Hybotid Fly

Family Hybotidae

Description:

This tiny fly was only 2 mm long, too small to even tell what it was by eyesight only. It has a large head for it's size The eyes comprise almost the entire head. It has prominent neck, long legs. I believe this is a species of Hybotidae, also called Dance Flies.

Habitat:

Came to an ultraviolet light in the garden, San Cristobal de Las Casas, 2,200 meters.

Added another picture for this species, Family Pipunculidae, the "Big-Headed Flies". Most species of this family are parsitoids on the Homoptera.

Thank you Argy - no head, just eyes. There must be a lot to see, even that small!
