Description:

Coeligena orina was known for over 50 years as a subspecies Coeligena bonapartei given by Wetmore in 1953 of a skin of an immature individual (Carriker 1954) (del Hoyo et public. al.1999) and reported as type locality in the mountains of Frontino Antioquia in the north end of the western mountains. In 2004 Niels Krabbe and a group of biologists rediscovered at the type locality and upload it to propose species category.
