Striped skunk

Mephitis mephitis

This carcass still has much of its fur so it's easy to identify as a skunk. Skunk skulls are similar to raccoons but smaller. The long claws are diagnostic, since skunks are mostly burrowing animals while raccoons are adapted to climbing and have short curved claws like a cat. These are features which could aid identification on a fully skeletonized remains
