Thanks rams4d!Env, yes very possibly this is scar tissue. Lisa examined the snake said it didn't appear to be a fungal infection.

It's actually a curious look Adarsha - snakes "taste" the air with their tongues, so he was smelling me & also checking out his reflection in my lens!
