Clay hole protruding from the ground. Some of these were tall, while others were just a hole in the ground.

Habitat:

Low lying, wet ground. Open field, almost marshy.

Crayfish chimney seems right! Thank you! I didn't know crayfish did that. I didn't see any couple feet, but there were some getting close to a foot.

Cool spotting! Maybe a crayfish chimney? They can get up to a couple feet tall, I think.
