Ardea cineria
These Grey Herons are one of the larger species in the Ardeidae family, as this one was they usually feed in shallow waters for fish and frogs standing motionless and waiting for their prey to pass in the water which they then use their long powerful bill to catch. We just happened to see this one as we were driving over a bridge so we parked up and crept back towards where we saw it, I only managed a couple of shots as it soon decided it wasnt happy being watched and that its cover had been blown! the water was very still and almost mirror like giving a great reflection of it below.
Seen in the river near the Jalon valley which is a protected ecopark due to the biodiversity of flora and fauna in the area.
only the one seen.
