Eastern Bluebird

Sialia sialis

Description:

New nesting box set up and had a pair start building within a week. I did have to enlarge the opening to 1 5/8" though. She seemed to be struggling at 1 3/8". Fortunately we haven't seen any starlings in the area challenging them and the male doesn't tolerate any guff, even chased a red bellied woodpecker that got to close.

Habitat:

Backyard adjacent to wetland conservation area.
